Water to our homes is supplied by the various regional Water Authorities. They are responsible for delivering clean fresh water that is fed into the main supply to our homes. This water we get will go through processes to make sure it is fit for drinking. This includes filtratio, chlorination, and the addition of something called fluoride. Walthamstow Boiler Repair understand all systems and can give advice and a professional plumbing service.

The supply mains are down at sufficient depth to ensure sure that they are not affected by frost or vibrations. Water mains in earlier years were made from asbestos cement and iron. Today, PVC is used and you will see these blue pipes where new mains are being installed. The pipework that supplies us is laid in the ground through to just outside the house boundary where a stop valve is fitted. The accessibility to this stop valve is by a chamber which is a vertically positioned pipe with a cover at on top and is marked to make it easy to locate. Out of this valve the supply pipwork continues to the house, this part is called the service pipe and is the responsibility of the owner. The service pipe is made of medium density polyethylene (MDPE). This Service Pipe continues underground until it is inside the house. This pipe depth should be at a minimum of 750 millimetres as protection against freezing. The size is 15 millimetres but is usually 25 millimetres. The service pipe should be in a sleeve where it runs under the building. Also being insulated to protect it from frost damage as it rises.

The water meter may be fitted externally or internally. Your local Walthamstow Boiler Repairs have all the knowledge and skill to advise on water supply and management.
