PVC has revolutionised modern day plumbing and replaces galvanised pipe and cast iron in almost all plumbing situations today. PVC is easy to install and is light weight but is also available in a variety of different sizes. PVC pipe is made from polyvinyl chloride which is a type of plastic and it is used in drains as vents or to manage waste. PVC pipe is ideal for drain appliances with your bathroom or kitchen fixtures. PVC pipe can be used in almost all environments except in high temperature locations. PVC is preferred over other piping like cast iron because it is resistant to toxic substances and alkaline, doesn’t need to be hot soldered and is incredibly easy to install. In addition, PVC piping is fire resistant, has low friction loss, low thermal conductivity and hardly need to maintain them.
Use the following steps as a guide on how to install PVC pipes.
Step One: Cut the pipe as you need it. Since it is easy to cut, you will only need a hacksaw. However, you have to guarantee the cut PVC pipe is not skewed because it will affect the entire run of piping.
Step Two: After cutting the PVC pipe, lay it on the floor and ensure it fits where you want it before continuing the installation.
Step Three: The pipe has to be cleaned with primer by swabbing it around the inside of the fitting and the end of the pipe. This is to guarantee that no contaminants will affect adhesion. PVC is connected with a special type of cement which sets very quickly so it is important to be prepared to apply the pipe immediately. You can coat the cement in the inner surface of the joint before inserting the pipe.
Step Four: Once the PVC pipe is connected to the joint, install pipe hangers which will support the PVC pipe. This helps ease the strain on the joints which will reduce the risk of leakages.
